iPhone
The Apple iPhone is the premier smart phone on the market today. This page details my favorite iPhone apps. I bought my iPhone 3GS 16 GB in February of this year. It is my first iPhone. I also have a second generation iPod Touch 8 GB. In June 2010, the new iPhone 4 was released. I will not be including iPhone 4-specific apps on my list at this time.
The apps I have listed as my favorites are all third-party apps. That said, I make plenty of use of the apps that are bundled with the iPhone OS. I use the Mail, Calendar, Notes, and Weather the most, but others as well.
I’d like to toss out the following thought on paid apps. A lot of people I know, who have actual iPhones, are reluctant to spend 99 cents or $1.99 for an app. Too many people refuse to pay for apps and only use the free apps, or the lite version of a paid app. That grates on my nerves. If you’re willing to shell out the money for an iPhone and the contract for voice and data service to that phone, you can shell out a few bucks for some quality content. Most of my favorite apps are not free, and I make no apologies for that.
A few great resources to discover new apps are:
- Macworld AppGuide
- AppShopper
- AppStruck
- App Advice Daily (podcast)
- AppSlappy (podcast)
The app links below direct to a description on AppShopper.com. They have a good website with descriptions and information about each app. You’ll find a link to each app on the iTunes Store from each page on AppShopper. You can view my AppShopper user page to see the apps I own, as well as those on my wish list.
